What is a PSD file?
PSD is Photoshop's native layered format — powerful for editing, but it needs Photoshop (or a converter) to open and is far too heavy to share.
First released in 1990 by Adobe, it uses lossless compression and transparency support, which makes it best suited to layered design files edited in Photoshop.
Drop a PSD file below and we'll show you every conversion available, each one processed locally on your device — nothing is uploaded to a server, so converting is instant and completely private.
Advantages of the PSD format
Full layered editing
PSD preserves layers, masks, text and effects, which is exactly why it's the standard working file for design in Photoshop.
Lossless master copy
It stores everything without quality loss, making it the ideal source you flatten and export from when a project is done.
Industry standard
Practically every professional design and photo tool can read or import PSD, so it's the common currency for handing off artwork.

PSD: frequently asked questions
Can I open a PSD without Photoshop?
Not in most everyday apps — they don't read PSD. Converting it to PNG or JPG gives you a flattened image that opens absolutely anywhere.
Are layers kept when I convert?
No. Converting flattens the composited image into a single picture (PNG, JPG, WebP or PDF). Keep the original PSD if you still need to edit the layers.
Is transparency preserved?
Yes when converting to PNG, WebP or TIFF, which keep an alpha channel. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white.
Is the conversion private?
Yes — your PSD is read and converted entirely in your browser; nothing is uploaded to a server.
