Why convert AVIF to BMP?

AVIF is the most efficient mainstream image format, but some old Windows software, embedded tools and legacy pipelines only accept BMP's raw, uncompressed pixel format. Converting an AVIF to BMP decodes it and repackages every pixel into that simpler container — much larger than the AVIF, but readable by software that's never heard of modern web codecs. It happens entirely in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

AVIF vs BMP at a glance

AVIF is the newest mainstream image format — outstanding compression, but support outside browsers is still patchy. BMP is Windows' raw bitmap format — pixel data stored uncompressed, which makes files enormous.

AVIF to BMP — frequently asked questions

Is this AVIF to BMP converter really free?

Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermarks and no daily limits.

Are my AVIF files uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion happens entirely on your device using your browser's built-in image engine. Your AVIF files never leave your computer or phone — which is also why the conversion is nearly instant.

Will converting AVIF to BMP lose quality?

No. BMP is a lossless format, so the converted file keeps every pixel exactly as decoded from your AVIF.

What happens to transparent areas?

BMP doesn't support transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with a solid white background during conversion.

Why is my BMP so much bigger than the AVIF?

BMP stores every pixel's color raw with no compression at all, while AVIF is one of the most efficient formats ever made. A large size increase from AVIF to BMP is normal and expected.

What happens to transparency?

BMP doesn't support transparency, so transparent areas in the AVIF are filled with a solid white background during conversion.

What about animated AVIF files?

Only the first frame is converted — the result is a single still BMP image.
